Anonymous, virtual, coaching and counseling sessions that are designed
exclusively for men and conducted without cameras.
Based entirely on cutting-edge research on male psychology
and sociological behavior, DKP provides individual and group sessions
--with male counselors--
to reduce anxiety/depression, anger, substance abuse, shame and stress,
while promoting overall balance, validation, self-esteem, and confidence.
When men know that their
identity is concealed,
they are more likely to share personal and sensitive information
without feeling the need to withdraw.
The reduction of external stimulation
allows clients and counselors to focus on verbal communication.
This enhances the quality of discussions and encourages participants to articulate their thoughts and feelings more clearly and deeply.
Men often face societal pressures
to conform to traditional,
masculine norms, which include suppressing emotions and
avoiding vulnerability.
Anonymity and dark screens reduce the fear of judgment,
making it easier for men to open up and express their true feelings.
Research shows that anonymous, virtual counseling
allows men to eliminate stigma,
which is a significant barrier
for men seeking help.
An anonymous environment helps
to bypass stigma by removing
the need for clients to
publicly acknowledge their
involvement in the program.
This makes DKP more
accessible and acceptable.
Many men,
especially those who game,
are already accustomed
to communicating with anonymity
via other virtual and social networks.
Due to this, it’s a familiar experience!
We therapeutically build upon a familiar platform,
understanding that anonymity leads to greater self-disclosure.
Anonymity creates a safe space where men feel protected
from potential repercussions in their
personal and professional lives.
This sense of security
is crucial in encouraging
honest and open discussions
about mental health
and personal lives.
Below are a few responses of members who provided feedback when asked if they could give insight into how they learned
about the program and what their experience has been.

"My wife has been on me for years to go to counseling. She suggested I try DK to see if it could help me with some of our issues. I have extreme stress and pressure due to my job and an overall lack of time for traditional therapy. Needless to say, it caused a number of problems in my marriage and also in my corporate world. Sessions have been good for me because I can do it at my convenience, and it often leaves me feeling much less stressed. I have been in the program for about six months and find it to be extremely beneficial." --CS
"The best way I'd describe my experience to a prospective member is this: it's the freedom and anonymity that you have when in the gaming world...but without the toxicity. You don't know who you are speaking with and they don't know you, but you can tell they are there to listen and help…I‘ve had anger and resentment issues for years and this has burdened most my relationships...I heard about the research Silver Oak was doing and asked to be a part of the program in its early stages to see if it could be something that could help. I found it was much easier to talk about my problems and process like this. I also do appreciate that it's virtual so there's a much more laid-back feel." --GD
"I've been to counseling before and got nowhere. I could look at my therapist and feel judgement, so I didn't want to talk. Eventually, I stopped. My girlfriend told me about this program and I liked the idea of being able to just chill at home without pretense and figured I'd give it a try. It has helped me address issues of loneliness and low self-esteem." --TC
"I am grateful for Silver Oak's research and subsequent development of this program. I'll be honest, though, I was super nervous at first. I almost didn't go through with it. But once my counselor and I begin talking, and I became more comfortable with the dynamic, I saw the merit of being able to be just able to speak without immediate backlash or hurting the people around me with my actual thoughts. This has been very good for me to be able to parse things out and then have healthier ways of communicating my thoughts to my loved ones…I had substance abuse issues when I first started. I also had problems with feeling underappreciated and overworked. Support has been helpful." --AH
